Regan (The Case for Animal Rights) is well known as a rights advocate, while Cohen (Naked Racial Preference: The Case Against Affirmative Action) is considered one of Regan's most ardent detractors. Although the two philosophy professors agree on some issues within the debate they both like animals, and believe animals feel pain, have emotions and deserve to be treated humanely on most others, they are diametrically opposed. Cohen (who teaches at the University of Michigan) believes animals do not have rights, and seeing no alternative to animal medical experimentation, finds it fully justified. Regan (who teaches at North Carolina State University) seeks the abolition of all animal experimentation, the fur industry and all commercial animal farming. Cohen feels justified being a "speciesist," whereas Regan considers speciesism "a moral prejudice" and wrong. Differences also manifest in the authors' styles of collegiality. Cohen calls Regan "Tom" and "Regan" and a friend despite adopting a condescending tone toward his arguments and pronouncing him a "zealot," a "fanatic" and "profoundly mistaken." Regan calls his opponent "Professor Cohen" or "Cohen." He is "disappointed" in some of Cohen's beliefs, believes Cohen's brief is "poorly reasoned and researched" and lists the failures he perceives in Cohen's argument, but remains civil throughout, bolstering his credibility. I have purchased many Kindle books that include pictures, graphics and charts. This book is supposed to contain pictures, but it doesn't. It clearly has placeholders for where the pictures are supposed to be, but no pictures. I tried on my Voyage, Kindle Fire, and on my iPhone. No luck. When I called customer support. they were completely unhelpful. You would think that they might have a Kindle of their own to verify, but they didn't seem to. They just took a bunch of my time and didn't solve the problem. If you want just the words, this book is for you. The text is a wonderful launching point for teaching/learning Shakespeare.

Love the fact that Shakespeare's play are in story form. Perfect for a refresher story or to read a new one you just couldn't get through previously.The Kindle Edition has no pictures, but throughout the text you see the words "Please keep picture HTML" this is very off-putting & interferes with reading.I guess you get what you pay for.

I'm not a fan of dumbing down great literature, even for children, but I actually like this one. It makes the language and themes easy for little ones to understand. One of my children is an advanced reader, and she read this in first grade. She enjoyed it, although I would recommend it for a slightly older reader.

Beautiful is the perfect word for this beautiful book!

My eight year old and I like this one better than Lamb's version. It is easier for her to understand because it is written in a more modern English style.

I haven't read all of these yet but the one from Midsummer Night's Dream was very brief but not entirely true to the original story by Shakespeare, I think. However I liked the presentation and they could be a good introduction to Shakespeare's stories for a child of about 9 or 10 years old.

Simplified version for 2-3 grade. Very useful introduction to Shakespeare that will undoubtedly kindle desire and love to read his plays and stories. Not watered down at all. Shakespeare naturally appeals to even young children and these retellings are a fantastical intro.

Very disappointing that I have to buy this product. Marxs would be very upset.

This was the wrong book for me, but maybe it will be better for you: I was expecting more of a much more clear cut guide on how exactly to overthrow the current regime in order to create a utopian society in which class no longer exists. He does a great job of providing a lot of examples where other versions of communism are wrong and flawed, and why, but never really gives a decent tutorial on how to pragmatically instantiate marxism.. I almost got the feeling like the substrate of reality was such that you can never eliminate the "bourgeoisie snakes from within", perhaps that alluded to the idea that layering a Marxist structure on top of reality means that reality will always poke through, even after it has suffocated and starved enough?? I followed the author on Kindle, we'll see if he publishes a vol. 2 sometime soon!

Got my copy and pages 9 through 40 are inverted and upside down. The entire book is goofed up because of this. I'm not pleased.

This should tell you something about the United States but you will only understand the current chaos of the US if you read the Manifesto, then read it again, and then reread the Manifesto. Annihilate all morality and all religion, establish Free Trade, Centralized all communication by the government, establish Democracy, annihilate Justice, Liberty, and Freedom all to support the New Jerusalem and monopoly of the World Market. Eliminate nationality, family and eliminate borders. Overturn and destroy the existing state of things! In the Manifesto the proletariat becomes more and more 'equalized', meaning reduced to nothing, powerlessness, silenced, in the scripted struggle. This is the real meaning behind the lie of Utopianism Marxist try to sell to people. No one person has more power than the other. You are all silenced and equalized. Think about that for two seconds and ponder the horror. Who has say in the Communist Marxist system? Only the bankers. Not even a billionaire like Trump cannot change the system in the US, so now you have some perspective your Marxist Neo Liberal professor did not give you. Marxism is based on One Totalitarian Government. Communism is a theological creation sold in a secular package to ideologues who don't read or understand Marx's theology.

I read The Communist Manifesto in college, at least two or three times, as part of history classes and even a couple English literature classes, to provide context. Yet, I don't know that I read it this closely back then, or that I took the time then to really think about the ideas and take notes (many, many notes). Back then, I was firm in my idea of "democracy good, communism bad," and eventually came to think of the Manifesto as purely a philosophical essay. But right now we are living in an age of economic disparity that is even sharper than The Gilded Age, when less than 1% of the world's population controls more than 95% of the wealth. And yet, few are really critiquing a capitalist system that sets in motion this inequality. And in looking at a communist plan for a manufacturing plant or a socialist state, there appears to be a lot more democracy and "will of the people" going on. I was already on the path of doing more research, but the Manifesto has inspired much more thought than I expected.

It's very light, which is great if you're packing it around. A very quick read, but I suspect that some readers may want the font to be larger. However, given the super low price, it was high quality.

Well, this literature has opened my eyes a bit toward Communists. I still am not a Communist if that's what you are wondering.

If politics, economy or life in general interest you - this is a must.
